
Dr. Pradip Niyogi, Professor of Mathematics, I.I.T Kharagpur (Retd.), Formerly Visiting Professor, Jadavpur University, Kolkata.
Dr. Niyogi has authored multiple books and research papers on different advanced Mathematics topics. He is a vivid reader and likes to pen down his thoughts and life experiences.
Pradip Niyogi studied at Presidency College, Calcutta and the Applied Mathematics Department, Calcutta University respectively for B. Sc. (Honors) degree (1955) in Mathematics and M. Sc. (1957) in Applied Mathematics. In 1958 he joined the Mathematics Department, Jadavpur University as a faculty and continued there till 1979. The same year he joined IIT Kharagpur as a Professor of Mathematics and he held the position till 1997. After superannuation, he served Jadavpur University as a Visiting Professor for one and a half year.
During 1961-65 he was a Research Associate of late Professor K. Oswatitsch at the then DVL Institute of Theoretical Gasdynamics, Aachen. Under his supervision, he carried out research work and received doctorate degree from the Mathematics/Physics Faculty of Technical University of Aachen (1965), with a thesis on Wing Theory. In 1971 he revisited Germany as a UNESCO Fellow. He was a member of INSA Delegation on Continuum Mechanics to the Soviet Union in 1985.
Professor Niyogi has made research contributions in several fields like Integral Equations, High Speed Gasdynamics and Computational Fluid Dynamics, in Numerical Weather Prediction and in the Field of Database Systems. He has authored Inviscid Gasdynamics (1971), a monograph on Integral Equation Method in Transonic Flow (1982), a research tract on Lift Distribution of Small Aspect Ratio Wings (1982), Numerical Analysis and Algorithms (2003) and several undergraduate textbooks on mathematics, three of the in Bengali. He has published about fifty papers in International and National journals.
He is a life Member of the Calcutta Mathematical Society and of the Indian Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ISTAM). He served as the President of ISTAM during 1993-94.
